noticings

There's a little online photo game called noticings. It's about, uh, noticing stuff. The idea is to notice something, photograph it for the game, post the photo on flickr, tag it noticings, and geotag it. Meaningless points are awarded for various arbitrary reasons -- first time post, first post from that neighborhood, misspelled stuff, lost stuff, etc. Info can be found on the noticings blog and the game is played from the noticings dashboard.

Here are a few snaps from recent photo cruises around the Old East Hill neighborhood in Pensacola. 

I have a thing for crisp, white buildings. And repetitive patterns. (Is that phrase redundant?) And stairs. And windows. Frames. Diagonals. Textures.

I wonder if fascination with these things is common to all photographers?

Old Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola

Diana and I explored Pensacola's Old Sacred Heart Hospital yesterday.

She was born there. I was not.

The day was grey and the light was not optimal for photographs, but we made do.

We started with lunch at O'zone Pizza Pub, in the basement of the old building.

Then we poked around the hospital interior.

There are a few offices but the building is essentially unchanged, from the solid oak doors to the shiny copper pipes.

I could imagine the Daughters of Charity with their white cornettes, gliding down the halls on hidden feet.

We peered, but were not allowed onto the upper floors.

Mary is visible through a rear window.  Strange.
